Last Thursday evening, Boys and Girls Clubs had a few of our besties over for dinner. You know what it’s like: you plan the best menu, get cleaned up, and wait for everyone to arrive. I’ll admit, it was a little out of the ordinary, because, well, it was 347 of our besties, it was at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver… AND it was SPECTACULAR!!!!! Best of all, our besties came with the very best (and most generous) gifts we could imagine: $270,000!
Thanks to the help of Scotiabank (our amazing presenting sponsor), Perry Solkowski (MC of the year), Fred Lee (Auctioneer about town), and Ivan Decker (comedian and BGC alum), this year’s gala was all about sending kids to Camp Potlatch. In the stories we shared (click here to view), it’s easy to see that going to Camp Potlatch is so much more than a week away in the summer. It’s a place where, for some of our kids, they feel safe for the first time. For others, it’s where they learn in a positive and inspiring way about taking responsibility for their actions, taking risks (safely), challenging themselves, and about being a good friend and team member. And most importantly, they learn that they matter, and to believe in themselves. It’s a life changing experience for many, and one that hundreds of kids will get to experience because of the generosity of strangers.
Last Thursday night, sooo many of our besties showed us they care…A LOT…by making a gift to send a kid (or many kids) to Camp. We’re sending out a BIG Camp thank you to everyone who was there and supported us. And, if you missed it, but you want to help too, click here to send a kid(s) to camp.
