Summary of Responsibilities

The Human Resources Coordinator is responsible for facilitating daily HR activities and assisting the manager with HR related functions in the areas of HR admin support, employee records, recruitment, performance management, onboarding and offboarding. The HR Coordinator works closely with Payroll, Supervisors and Staff. External communications include Group benefit, pension plan, and HR Information System (HRIS) providers. This position has access to confidential and personal information about BGC staff and requires a high degree of discretion, competence, and confidentiality.

 

Job Duties

  • Under the direction of the HR Manager, and as a member of the HR team, coordinates BGC HR Activities.
  • Generates, writes, and submits reports on general HR activity.
  • Keeps up to date with HR best practices and monitors compliance related to employment law, reference/police checks, licensing, and credentialing, etc.
  • Helps maintain employee relations and assists with responding to employee inquiries or requests ensuring follow up and documentation where applicable.
  • Participates and assists with meetings and planning for employee lunch and learns, recruitment and onboarding meetings, exits, and processes related to HR activities.
  • Works with payroll for the enrollment, processing and terminations of employee group benefit and pension plans.
  • Works with payroll to resolve employee payroll enquiry/issues.
  • Coordinates employee records management including hard copy files, electronic files, and
  • Assists in the development and implementation of accessible information technology tools, templates, forms, processes etc. related to recruitment, onboarding, performance management, attendance (scheduling) training, employee engagement and offboarding.
  • Maintains electronic system and hard copies as required for WorkSafeBC claims.
  • Assists with the implementation, updating and processing related to employee compensation.
  • Coordinates recruitment process.
  • Ensures that credential, reference, police/CRRP checks, and training requirements are met at hire and/or within onboarding timeline.
  • Participates with Manager and Program Supervisors as needed to onboard new hires.

Requirements

  • Clear Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector)
  • A bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, or related field and one year of experience in an HR position demonstrating strong understanding of HR process. Or  diploma in Human Resource Management with a minimum of 3 years experience in an HR position demonstrating strong understanding of HR process.
  • CPHR designation or working toward designation preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience using, maintaining, and updating Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS). Experience using COMVIDA and/or scheduling software is an asset.
  • Experience generating/writing reports from HRIS.
  • Proficiency with MS office Suite,
  • Knowledge and experience in HR best practices and HR Administration.
  • Experience with onboarding (orientation), recruitment and hiring, compensation, performance management and employee relations.
  • Motivated team player with the ability to work independently when required.
  • Ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, and respectfully.
  • Excellent communication, written and verbal skills.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.

This is a full-time (37.5 hrs./week) salary position ($59,963 to start), with group benefits at six months, pension after one year, three weeks paid vacation leave in first year, paid sick and personal leave, paid birthday off and up to 5 days statutory holiday substitution days per year to celebrate/recognize religious, cultural, and/or personal days that are important to the employee where those days are not currently recognized as statutory holidays in BC/Canada).
