On #OrangeShirtDay, we remember and honour the children who were removed from their homes and sent to residential schools. Today, we take time to reflect on the impact of residential schools and colonization continue to have on Indigenous peoples.

We laughed together, we cried together, and we raised $380,000 (NET!!) together! Whether you joined us at Gala, purchased a raffle ticket, bid on auction items, or raised your hand to make a donation, your generosity means that MORE kids and youth will get opportunities that they may not have otherwise gotten. That impact is truly special. Thank you to all of our friends for believing in, just like we do, the amazingness of kids! #WarmFuzzyFeelings #GalaVibes

BGC`s Learn On Program provides a safe space for youth ages 13-18 to access homework support, work with tutors and mentos, and of course, socialize with friends! And, as BGC kids and youth head back to school, Learn On is in full swing at our Langley, Kimount, and Fraserview Clubs!
Making this program available to ALL youth takes a whole lot of support, and we are so happy to thank our #BGCBesties at @americaneagle for supporting Learn On this year! #OpportunityChangesEverything #UnbelievableImpact

Our very own President & CEO, Carolyn Tuckwell, received the @bgccan Visionary Award, recognizing her hard work bringing this to life. Here’s what they had to say:
“Our Visionary Award is a national honour recognizing individuals whose leadership has made a profound and lasting impact on children, youth, and the BGC movement.
Carolyn, CEO of BGC South Coast BC, was the driving force behind how we measure impact by implementing Project Impact at her Club.
She recognized the potential of this approach and secured funding to expand the project to BGC Canada. Our Learning and Impact Project has transformed the way BGC Clubs communicate their outcomes, proving and improving the Clubs’ impact on young people across the country.”

For over 85 years, BGC has been giving thousands of kids a place to belong in their neighbourhoods across the Lower Mainland. Our Clubs open their doors to kids and youth when they aren’t at home or at school, where our trained staff provide programs that help them realize positive outcomes in self-expression, academics, healthy living, physical activity, leadership and SO much more.
But for us, it isn’t enough to SAY that kids and youth are working towards these outcomes, or to HOPE that that our Clubs are having a positive impact. So instead, we developed the Learning and Impact Project, an in-depth evaluation that includes qualitative interviews and quantitative surveys. This report helps us not only prove our intended impact but will help us improve upon the impact that we want to have in the lives of kids and youth. And we are SO excited to share what they said!
