Wanna know a secret?
We hope that each and every time we send you a message, you’ll learn something new and profound about what we do. The average person on the street seems to think of us as a place where kids hang out, play sports, and have fun. We are that…but with a mission.
When kids belong to Boys and Girls Clubs or go to Camp Potlatch, they’re in a place where, because of our disciplined approach and focus on building relationships with each and every kid, they’ll develop relationship skills, healthy living behaviours, a lifelong love of learning, and leadership skills, without even realizing it. At BGC, the learning is experiential, and these “big life lessons” are most often learned through mentorship and the admiration that kids hold for the leaders (a.k.a. staff) they want to be like.
As the school year ends, we’re programmed to think that “learning” ends for the summer, and in fact, we often make that same assumption about the end of a school day, but because of our intentional approach, the learning continues. In case you’re thinking “yeah, but can you prove that?”, I can tell you that we can! Our impact measurement (quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews) tell us the following:
We share this so you know that when you make a gift to BGC, you are giving kids right here in our communities exactly what they need to grow up well…things we often think about as intangibles, but that are, in fact, basic human needs. Click here to support our efforts.
