That’s a BIG statement, and you might wonder how that could be. Well, at BGC South Coast BC, we believe that every kid is amazing – not just that they would be if they had other opportunities or if their circumstances were different, but just as they are. Our staff understand that one of the most important parts of their work is to make sure kids know that we see them and believe in them exactly as they are. When kids feel that from adults/mentors they look up to, they believe in themselves too! And when kids believe in themselves, they believe in their own futures!
Over these past few weeks at BGC, we’ve been celebrating in ALL the ways! Honouring traditions and celebrations from around the world, including good old Santa Claus. It’s a fun time of year for me, as I get the chance to pop in and out of moments across our organization, where children and youth are experiencing the holidays in a safe, welcoming place, surrounded by people who believe in them and their amazingness. In my role, I know that for some, that is a welcome reprieve from their struggles or challenges, and that those moments can change everything for them. I know that because I’ve both seen it and heard it from them.
After all these years, it still stops me short to see kids and youth stream into their Club full of excitement. And it’s incredible to see others soften, and lighten when they see “their” staff person. BGC is a place of belonging. BGC is a place of believing. Community and people like you help us to create that for amazing kids, and I hope you will choose to continue to help us to do just that with a gift this year.
